Propeller mixer

Propeller (screw) mixer with guide tube (MPT type) — a high-speed device. The mixing unit consists of a propeller (screw)with two, three or four blades, depending on the model. The blades are curved like the screw, which allows the liquid in the mixing process to circulate not only in the horizontal but also in the vertical plane, moving along the axis. Due to its unique design features, the mixer can provide a full circulation of a liquid medium in atank, spending a minimum of mechanical energy. This is its main task.

Purpose of propeller (screw) mixer

The design of the device with a propeller mixer allows it to perform the following functions:

  • Dissolve and convert into emulsions of any kind according to the viscosity of the liquid;
  • Raise and stir up a solid precipitate in a liquid, with a mass content of not more than 10% and a particle size of up to 0.1 mm;
  • Mix fibrous materials;
  • Optimize temperature parameters in a liquid;
  • Increase the intensity of heat exchange.

Design features of propeller mixers

To begin with, a screw mixer is a device with a working body in the form of a propeller and curved screw-like blades. Typically, the diameter of this type of mixer is from 150 to 1000 mm.

The most common are MPT three-bladed, the shaft of which can be installed, not only vertically and horizontally, but at an angle.

The specifics of the screw arrangement depends directly on the mixing technology. In some cases, if the immersion depth is high enough, it is recommended to install an additional propeller on the shaft.

Also, mandatory recommendations include the requirement to install mixers of this type in special tanks having an elliptical or conical bottom. This is due to the fact that when the mixer is installed in a tank with a flat bottom, the probability of formation of a stagnation zone of is not excluded, which will not ensure sufficient quality of the mixture.

In some cases, when special attention is paid to the quality of circulation, the propeller can be installed in a cylindrical glass —diffuser. This method justifies itself if the tank is equipped with coils or pipes, as well as if the ratio of height to diameter is overestimated in hardware.

Scope of application of propeller mixers

The scope of propeller mixers application, thanks to its simple design and low power, is quite wide. It includes:

  •  the food industry, for making blends of wines in winemaking, production of juices and drinks, maintaining the necessary temperature of the mixture, etc .;
  • chemical industry, for mixing low-viscosity liquids or stirring insoluble sediments, to create various kinds of emulsions, etc .;
  • the construction industry, for the use of various mortars and mixtures;
  • the oil industry, as mixers for petroleum products;
  • the pharmaceutical industry, for the manufacture of saline solutions and other multi-component drugs.

Propeller mixers are manufactured in three versions: with a worm gear motor (version A); with a coaxial-cylindrical gear motor (version B) and directly from the electric motor (version C).
